A dramatic dance-inspired collaborative show, featuing twelve new paintings by arguably the country's most popular living artist, Jack Vettriano, and over forty black and white photographs by Jeanette Jones.
The Ballroom Spy showcases the glamourous and intoxicating world of professional ballroom dancing, taking the viewer on stage and behind the scenes; from covert glimpses of backstage nerves to the full flourish bravado of performance under the glare of the spotlight.
Seven of Vettriano's paintings are interpretations of classic images from Jones' impressive ten-year archive of photographs, shot at championship competitions around the country. Vettriano releases the characters from their black and white world and puts them into his own signature settings, steeped in colur. His other works take the dancing theme out of the ballroom and into the realms of fantasy and escapism in classic Vettriano style.
An accomplished dancer herself, Jonese captures the split second moments that define the look and mood of routines from the romance of a classic waltz to the intesne passion of a tango.
A retrospective collection of Vettriano's limited edition prints will hand alongside the main exhibition.
