TRIPS 2015/2016

A Christmas Treat in Salisbury
Museum | Cathedral | Christmas Market • Monday 30th November 2015

SALISBURY MUSEUM: Our morning visit is to the multiple award winning museum in The Kings House, to see 'The Definitive Works of a Decorative Artist'. This retrospective exhibition of the life and works of John Hinchcliffe, the influential weaver, painter and ceramicist, includes works never before exhibited, and is complimented by a small exhibition of his prints, limited editions of which are for sale. The £8 entry fee includes a free annual pass or is free to holders of a National Art Pass.

SALISBURY CATHEDRAL: For our afternoon at the Cathedral, we meet at 14.00 for our group booking to see the Salisbury Magna Carta. The best preserved of the four original manuscripts, it is displayed at the heart of a new interactive exhibition in the magnificent Chapter House. A conducted tour of the Cathedral takes you from the 13th century building of England's tallest Spire, to contemporary art and sculpture in the Cathedral and the Cloisters.

CHRISTMAS MARKET: Walk to the Guildhall Square at dusk, for the famous Christmas Market. The emphasis is on quality, for a large range of unique and desirable gifts, designer crafts to decorations, and food and drink ranging from deluxe English specialities, to more traditional European Christmas fare. Purchase gifts, or perhaps end our day on a festive note sitting beside the Christmas tree, listening to the Bandstand Choir, and enjoying a glass or two of mulled wine, before returning to the coach for our journey home
