Fancy letting off steam after a hectic day at work or college? Tired of the treadmill, the rowing machine and the exercise bike? Come and de-stress at RWA’s new Creative Gym classes, where each week you will be guided through a range of fun, informal and unusual art-making activities by a diverse range of experienced tutors. Absolute beginners welcome!

Tuesday 12 May: Louise Block - Glass hangings - your opportunity to try working in a different medium! Make a small glass panel using brilliantly coloured glass pieces; also make a wonderful decorative piece using glass and Das (self hardening clay)

Artist Professional Development Sessions

The RWA’s Artist Professional Development Sessions offer useful advice for both emerging and more established artists. They are delivered by a range of creative practitioners, lecturers, producers and curators.

Tuesday 21 April: An Introduction to Photographing Artworks - a practical-based workshop led by photographer Martin Edwards.

In this session we will explore the some of the fundamentals of photographing artworks, both 2D and 3D - ideal for creating a portfolio of work or images for online submissions, for example. Bring a digital camera -  a compact or SLR is fine, and a tripod if you own one, although we will have some available here, too.

Tuesday 28 April: Establishing your artistic practice in the South West and beyond 

Join Grace Davies, Director of Visual Arts South West, for an overview of some of the important things to consider as an emerging artist. It will include reference to Grace's own personal journey, as well as information about VASW and how it can support your burgeoning creative practice.

Tuesday 5 May: Applying for ACE ‘grants for the arts’ funds.

Artists Sara Dudman and Debbie Locke RWA have recently been successful in their bid to secure funding through ACE grants for the arts (Arts Council England).

In this session they will talk you through their experience, offering insights into the ups and downs of the process from their perspectives, from the initial proposals through to delivering the project itself.
