Anita Mandl was born in Prague. She trained as a zoologist at Birkbeck College, London and was on the teaching/research staff of the Medical School, University of Birmingham, until l965 (B.Sc, Ph.D, D.Sc). She then moved to Devon and set up a sculpture studio. Most of her carvings – first in wood and then in stone - are simplified animal forms with highly polished surfaces and detail eliminated to set off the natural beauty of her materials.
She was elected an ARBS in l970, and FRBS in l980. For some 20 years she was also a member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and Roy.Soc.Marine Artists.
Most of her carvings are also cast in bronze in limited editions. Since l987 they have been cast and patinated exclusively by Pangolin Editions. Her work has been shown on numerous occasions at the R.A, It is currently on display in several art galleries in London, Hants, Oxon and Glos.
