My work is a translation of my own experience of place. I find myself increasingly drawn to intimate and often organic spaces which I come to see as secret worlds or emotional landscapes. My process is a visual, physical and emotional response involving on-site sketching, taking hundreds of photographs and collecting artefacts which I later surround myself with in my studio. This prompts interplay of mixed media and a seeking-out of a tangible memory through open exploration. Painterly layers and a flatter planarity combine and give rise to a new sensual space for me – a space in which to feel rather than to think notions of vulnerability, security, reparation and resolution.
