Abstract landscape painting by Chris Guest in the Long Gallery.

"My work can be described as contemporary abstract landscapes...the inspiration comes from my passion for travel. I attempt to bring to life the colours and landscapes I have experienced and put this on canvas. My primary aim is to create an atmosphere and feel rather than view what you see around you. I like to immerse the viewer in my paintings, whilst allowing them to imagine their own places and create an emotional response in what they see. I work primarily with oil paint on canvas using various mark making methods including scratching the canvas and sometimes applying the paint with my hands – a technique that leaves strong evidence of a human trace in the work. I like the viewer to see the movement captured within the painting and I use a variety of techniques to create this, varying from vigorous brush strokes with thick paint to thin glazes."
