A Friends Exhibition in support of the RWA.
Artist Mary Drown has always felt the need to make things. Learning how to sew at an early age meant that fabrics always played an important part in her life. Drown completed a City & Guilds Diploma in Creative Studies/Design with Fashion Skills, followed by an Art Foundation Diploma and a Drawing and Applied Arts Degree at U.W.E. graduating in 2007. Drown was introduced to silk painting during her Diploma but concentrated instead on three-dimensional and installation works for her Degree, involving transferring images onto fabric and designing, making and embroidering vintage clothes. She has since experimented with various resistance techniques, methods of applying silk paint exploring the infinite variety of patterns and textures found on leaves, stems and grasses.
