Identity. Is it the way we look? Where we live or our place in the family? What about friends? Our language? Culture?
Founded by Camila Batmanghelidjh in 1996, Kids Company has provided practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children for almost two decades. In 2012, Kids Company opened their first Bristol branch, set up to deliver a service to support the vulnerable children and young people of Bristol.
Pieces of Me is an exhibition of work made by 11- to 16-year-olds during a series of art workshops. The workshops were run in a partnership between Kids Company and RWA’s Volunteer Artist Network members Rachael Nee and Helen Jones.
Each child created their own ‘piece of me’ in the form of a box, decorated, adorned and filled with objects to represent themselves. Each work provides a distinct window into the personality of its creator, shining a light on the individual. Pieces of Me brings each piece together in a celebration at the RWA, including photos and documentation from the project.
With thanks to UWE for their support in kind.
