The Royal West of England Academy provides a uniquely sophisticated setting for bespoke intimate Bristol wedding celebrations. Located in the heart of Clifton, this beautiful Grade II* listed historical art gallery, with stunning foyer and balcony, can be hired exclusively for exceptional evening wedding receptions of a small scale.

What is included in the venue hire?
The hire fee includes use of the balcony and marble landing, exclusively for your guests, staff to welcome and invigilate the galleries plus set up and installation of your event. We also offer a complimentary welcome and introduction to the galleries from the RWA Director at the start of your event.
Is the RWA licenced for civil ceremonies?
We are not licenced but we can suggest multiple nearby venues for your wedding ceremony.
What is the venue capacity?
The Sharples & Winterstoke main galleries can seat up to 150 guests for dinner, and 300 for a standing only evening. These numbers are dependent on the current exhibition.
The stunning array of artwork lining the gallery walls provides a unique wedding decor for your special day, however you may chose to add additional decor should you desire. We ask that this be kept to table decorations and centre pieces, to protect any damage to our artwork on the walls. Please note, we cannot allow any naked flames within the building, so all candle light must be artificial.
Band / Dance floor
The acoustics of the space lend itself well to a live band, which is more than welcome for dancing later on. Should you require one, we also recommend a temporary dance floor is hired from our recommended provider, both for aesthetic and preservation purposes.
We wholeheartedly recommend local artisan food experts Papadeli, as our preferred caterers. See below for some beautiful sample menus, they can provide you with a customised quote to suit any requirement and taste.
