Learning and Families at the RWA

Families and school groups are always welcome at the RWA. We keep entry for under 16s free, which extends to as many activities as possible. Our aim is to encourage participation from all our visitors and to instil a love of art in all.

We provide level access into the building and ground floor cafe/shop, a lift for pushchairs to reach our first floor galleries, and the baby change toilets on the basement level. We can even look after your buggy if you’d like to leave it while you look around.

Family Activities

We are programming more events and activities designed for children and young people to take part in, both independently and together as a family. Regular events include our monthly family drop-in Scribble and Sketch as well as workshops related to specific exhibitions. We also work in collaboration with Bristol’s renowned Spike Print Studio to offer print workshops for families and children, and provide fun and informative family worksheets helping you to explore exhibitions as a family.

To find out what is coming up please visit our What's On page for current exhibitions and events or to find out more about our offer for kids see Kids in Museums.

Schools and Educational Visits

Group visits from schools, colleges, art groups and other organisations are welcomed and encouraged. If you are planning a group visit to the Academy please visit our Booking a School or Group Visit page for more information.

RWA are proud to have become an Arts Award supporter.

Arts Award inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents: it's creative, valuable and accessible. Arts Award can be achieved at five levels, four accredited qualifications and an introductory award.

RWA have recently introduced a new range of workshops for schools and young people, all of which have been designed to complement Arts Award . FFI click here.
