Stay at Home Series: Iain Biggs RWA

We asked our artists to share what they are working on and how they're are keeping busy during this unprecedented time. Here, Academician Iain Biggs answers our questions:

  • What are you currently working on?

I'm currently starting a collaborative piece with an artist called Lindsey Colbourne. A project around a conversation about the nature and ramifications of enclosures/corlan in her local area - see https://lindseycolbourne.com/corlan. Fortunately I had a very brief visit with her and her partner so could get some sense of her home turf just before all this virus trouble kicked off. I'm also trying to finish off some work because my studio is at home is small, and inevitably crowded (see photos). Anyway, I've been making and preparing the support for the piece I want to make with Lindsey.

  • Tips to stay active, creative and busy during this period

I find I need a mixture of different things to do. Not too long on any one thing, whether it's gardening or working in the studio. In addition to all that and the daily family stuff, I'm also preparing the manuscript and photos for a book for Routledge, hopefully to be published by the end of this year.

  • What are you most looking forward to?

Seeing my children and my new granddaughter again.

  • Has being at home made you appreciate some things more than usual? What are these things?

Yes - the concern shared between people as to our collective well-being. There are people I don't know well who have contacted me out of the blue to ask after the family and myself. That's been very touching and something I've tried to reciprocate.
