Inspired by the RWA's Soft Power exhibition, draw on your own memories, experiences and imagination to create a deeply personal and meaningful mixed-media textile piece. In the studio, on week 1, explore words, images and mark-making to create hand-painted fabrics and textile compatible papers to then tear into strips to be used as yarn, embracing the processes of deconstruction and regeneration.
During weeks 2 and 3, combine your hand-made yarns with recycled materials and other fabric yarns, as you learn various tapestry techniques, such as twinning, knotting and basic weaving. The process will result in a small abstract tapestry weaving, containing and concealed within it your personal story – the fabric of your life.
Please bring along a personal object to the first session to use as a starting point to inspire drawing and painting on fabric and papers. We recommend bringing your own fabric scissors to the sessions.

Participants must be 18 or over.
If eligible, discounts must be applied when first purchasing your class and cannot be given retrospectively. Please contact us if the discount code is not working.
If you have a disability, learning difficulty or mental health issue which you feel may affect your participation in your chosen class, please either email drawingschool@rwa.org.uk or call 07745694563, prior to booking, so we are aware of any needs you may have.
Refund/transfer and Cancellation Policy: We are unable to offer full or part cash refunds, but you are eligible for an RWA gift voucher or transfer, minus an admin fee*, provided you notify us more than 14 days before the start of your class with us. If we cancel a course or workshop for any reason, then participants will be offered a different date, course/workshop or RWA gift voucher.
