Laura Howarth

My work is inspired by landscapes and my love of untamed and wild places comes from my early connections to the forests and coastlines of the Pacific Northwest.

I like to tap into connections with a place at a deep level, going beneath the surface to explore subliminal associations with the landscape.

I work intuitively: there is not a plan but there is intention. The paintings are constantly changing and evolving. Form and content infuence each other as the work evolves and by adding layers and then scratching away at the surface, traces of earlier layers are revealed and so the process continues until the painting feels as though its intention has been realised.
