Friends Talk - Vera Boele-Keimer RWA: Woven Paintings

" This talk will focus on current work and give an insight into the ideas and processes behind it. Over the last few years, the role of textile thinking has become relevant in my painting practice. Artist residencies at “Thread” and the Albers Foundation in the USA have been instrumental in developing my research into the relationship between painting and weaving, surface and ground, materiality and process. The talk will coincide with the exhibition “Connecting Threads” in the Kenny Gallery (RWA) which will feature recent works including my largest painting to date! "

Vera Boele-Keimer studied Fine Art at the Academy of Art in Münster, Germany, after completing a degree in History and English. She moved from Berlin to Bristol in 2004 and completed an MFA at Bath Spa University in 2013. Vera was elected as Academician at the RWA in 2012. She has been invited to artist residencies at the Nelimarkka Museum in Alajärvi, Finland (2006), Kunstnerverkstede Trondheim, Norway (2015) and Thread in Sinthian, Senegal (2019). Her most recent artist residency was at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Bethany, USA.

Vera’s work is regularly exhibited in group and solo exhibitions both in the UK and abroad, and her work is held in public and private collections. Vera is a lecturer and programme lead for the BA (Hons) Fine Art and Contemporary Arts Practice at Bristol School of Art and a studio holder at Jamaica Street Studios in Bristol.
